“It is such a relief to know she is eating healthy food that requires no special preparation.”

UC Davis analyzed 200 homemade recipes. Nine passed.
Researchers ran 200 published recipes for healthy adult dogs through nutritional analysis. They came from 34 sources: pet care books, websites, and veterinary textbooks. Here is what they found.
came up short on at least one essential nutrient
or more had multiple deficiencies, not just one
of the 200 met the AAFCO minimums for adult dogs
Stockman J, Fascetti AJ, Kass PH, Larsen JA. Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 2013. Summary from UC Davis.
The gaps most likely to cause real problems were choline, vitamin D, zinc and vitamin E. They are invisible, they are tasteless, and a dog can look completely fine for months.
And rotating recipes does not fix it. UC Davis found that so many recipes shared the same deficiencies that feeding variety, the thing most people do to cover the gaps, is unlikely to correct them.

Nobody sees the Sunday behind the bowl. We do.
You started because you read the back of a bag once and could not unread it. Here is everything that goes into it, most of which nobody else ever sees:
- 01Finding meat you actually trust, every single week
- 02The chopping, the boiling, the cooling, the portioning
- 03Containers labeled and stacked so a full week fits in one freezer
- 04Reading up on calcium and zinc ratios, because nobody else was going to
- 05Then doing every one of these again next Sunday
That is five jobs, every week, and you have been doing all five. You do not have to hand over all five.
Because when you’re the one making every meal, there’s no backup plan. Life gets busy. You go away. But he still needs dinner.
The same ingredients. The nutrition already solved.
You have been the butcher, the cook, the portioner and the nutritionist. Four jobs, one person, every week. Here is what happens to all four when you stop doing them alone.
The butcher
The cook
The nutritionist
The portioner

“I was spending a good part of my day off making his food from scratch. This frees up some time.”
“DASH wet food has a high-quality texture and appearance that reminds us of the homemade meat we prepare for them, and all four dogs happily eat both recipes.”
“I’ve tried just about every premade food out there for my big girls. Even after the adjustment period, my girls always had soft stool. This one is different.”
“My extreme picky eater loves this food. I really appreciate the sourcing too!”
