Membership & Subscription

Is DASH Dog Food a subscription service?

Yes — DASH Dog Food is a subscription-based service. Once you see how it works, we think you'll love it as much as your pup loves dinner time.

  • Food delivered automatically on your chosen schedule — no reordering, no forgetting.
  • Every plan built around your specific dog — weight, age, activity level, and preferences.
  • Full flexibility: reschedule, delay, change frequency, swap proteins, or cancel anytime.
  • No lock-in — cancel any time before your next processing date, no fees.

DASH Dog Food was formerly known as ButcherBox for Pets. Same food, same sourcing standards, same team — just a brand identity that's all about your dog.

New here? Build your pup's custom plan. First delivery backed by our satisfaction guarantee.

How do I manage my subscription?

You have full control through your account portal. Log in at dashdogfood.com/account and click Manage Subscriptions to:

  • Reschedule or delay an upcoming order
  • Change your delivery frequency
  • Update your next order date
  • Modify your dog's meal plan
  • Update your shipping address or payment method

Make changes before your next processing date so they apply to your upcoming shipment.

Can I reschedule, delay, or change the frequency of my delivery?

Life with a dog is wonderfully unpredictable — and your delivery schedule should be able to keep up. From your Next Box section in Manage Subscriptions, you have three flexible options:

  • Reschedule: Move your next delivery to a specific date that works better for you — without changing your ongoing delivery schedule.
  • Delay: Push your next order back by 1, 2, or 4 weeks with a single click. Perfect for when you're overstocked, traveling, or just need a little breathing room.
  • Change frequency: Update how often you receive deliveries going forward — weekly, biweekly, monthly, or whatever cadence fits your pup and your pantry.

To make any of these changes, log in to your account, go to Manage Subscriptions, and navigate to the Next Box section. Make your change before your next processing date for it to take effect on the upcoming shipment.

Need a hand? Drop us a line at support@dashdogfood.com — happy to help one pup parent to another.

I'm an existing member — do I have to update to the new subscription model?

If you are a current subscriber, your plan is already on the individual-per-dog model — no action needed.

Unsure whether your account needs updating? Email support@dashdogfood.com and we'll check for you in under a minute.

How do I update my order frequency?
  1. Log in to your account and click Manage Subscriptions.
  2. Navigate to the Next Box section.
  3. Click Change Date / Frequency to update how often your deliveries arrive.
  4. Adjust your preferred schedule and save.

Important: changing your frequency does not automatically update your next billing date. Use the Set next order date option in the same section if you want to shift your upcoming charge as well.

You can access all delivery options — date, frequency, and box size — from the Next Box section of your Manage Subscriptions page.

Can I update my next billing date?

Absolutely. Log in to your account at dashdogfood.com/account and click the Set next order date button. A calendar will appear — pick whatever date works for you.

Please note: your billing date is not your shipping date. We ship on Monday and Wednesday. After your order bills, delivery typically arrives 2–3 days after the next fulfillment day. Estimated delivery can be seen on your account page based on your next bill date.

Great for syncing deliveries to a more convenient time of month, or shifting away from a busy period.

Can I change the amount of food I receive?

Yes — we offer four box sizes so you can choose whatever works best for your dog and how you like to feed.

  • Small (S): Ideal for smaller dogs or lighter eaters.
  • Small+ (S+): A step up for dogs who need a little more.
  • Medium (M): Our most popular size for mid-size dogs.
  • Large (L): For larger dogs or households with multiple dogs.

We calculate your initial plan recommendation based on your dog's weight, age, activity, and lifestyle. Every pup and family is different, so you can always update your plan to match your feeding preferences.

  1. Log in → Manage Subscriptions → Next Box section.
  2. Click Edit on your meal plan and select your preferred box size.
  3. Save — your new box size applies from your next scheduled order.

Not sure which size is right? Start with our recommendation and adjust anytime — there's no commitment to a specific size.

How do I update my payment method?

Keeping your payment info up to date means your pup's meals never miss a beat.

  1. Log in to your account at dashdogfood.com/account.
  2. Head to Billing & Payment.
  3. Click Update Payment Method.
  4. Enter your new card details and save — done!

Update before your next order processing date so your pup's delivery stays on schedule.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel any time with no fees. To avoid being charged for your next order, cancel before your order processing date.

  1. Log in → Manage Subscriptions → Cancel Subscription.
  2. Follow the prompts.
  3. You'll receive a confirmation email once done.

If your order has already been processed or shipped, we can't stop it — but reach out to support@dashdogfood.com and we'll do our best to help.

Before you cancel — did you know you can reschedule or delay your next delivery instead? We'll be here waiting with a full bowl whenever you're ready.

What does a membership include?

Every DASH membership includes your chosen food format:

  • Premium Slow-Cooked Nutrition (fresh, frozen) — gently sous vide cooked
  • Premium Nutrition Dry Dog Food — organic chicken dry food

Note: treats are only available as subscription add-ons — not as standalone one-time purchases.

What are the benefits of being a DASH subscriber?

Being a DASH subscriber is more than just a delivery schedule — here's what you actually get:

  • Always-fresh delivery: Your pup's food ships on a regular schedule — no reordering, no emergency store runs.
  • Custom plan that evolves: Update your dog's profile as they grow and their plan adjusts automatically.

What is slow-cooked dog food?

DASH's Slow-Cooked Nutrition uses the sous vide method — vacuum-sealed and cooked at precisely controlled low temperatures (165°F). This matters because:

  • High-heat processing (like extrusion used in most kibble) destroys nutrients. Sous vide doesn't.
  • Natural moisture and integrity are retained — tender, not mushy.
  • Proteins, fats, and micronutrients stay intact in their most bioavailable form.

Think of it like a slow cooker at home — gentle, deliberate cooking that preserves what matters most.

What is the consistency and texture of the food?

Slow-Cooked Nutrition: soft, hearty, and easy to scoop. Retains natural moisture — not mushy like wet food, but softer and more tender than kibble. Easy for dogs of all sizes to chew and digest. Many pups lick the bowl clean on day one.

Dry Dog Food: disc-shaped dry food, approximately 10–14mm in diameter and 5–7mm in length.

Where does the meat come from?

DASH Dog Food is built on the ButcherBox supply chain — the same network of trusted farms feeding thousands of households.

  • GAP-3 certified organic chicken — verified third-party animal welfare standard, meaningful outdoor access.
  • Pasture-raised beef — 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, no antibiotics, no added hormones, ever.
  • Dry food protein: GAP-3 certified organic chicken.
Why should I choose DASH Dog Food over other fresh food brands?

Here's what makes DASH genuinely different from every other fresh pet food brand:

  • The supply chain is already ours: built on the ButcherBox network — the same farms that feed thousands of households. No anonymous third-party sourcing. Clean protein you can trust.
  • GAP-3 certified organic chicken and pasture-raised beef: human-grade is the floor. We raise the bar with additional third-party sourcing standards.
  • Developed by a comprehensive nutrition team — including board-certified veterinary nutritionists and leading experts in animal health — every recipe is formulated and tested for complete, balanced nutrition.
  • Sous vide cooking: preserves natural nutrients that high-heat kibble processing destroys.
How long does the food stay fresh?
  • Slow-Cooked Nutrition: 12 months in the freezer (sealed). Once opened, refrigerate and use within 7 days.
  • Dry Dog Food: 18-month shelf life. Seal tightly and store in a cool, dry place after opening.

A good habit: thaw one pack at a time in the fridge so you're always working from a fresh pack.

Can I get both fresh and dry food?

Each subscription is either fresh or dry as your primary plan. You can add the other format as an add-on:

  • On a Slow-Cooked plan: add a 24 lb bag of Dry Food to your order.
  • On a Dry Food plan: add a 12 lb pack of Slow-Cooked Nutrition to your order.
What are mixed tocopherols?

Mixed tocopherols are a naturally derived preservative and a source of Vitamin E. We use them in both our dog food and treats to maintain freshness without artificial additives.

Are the DASH formulations the same as ButcherBox for Pets?

Yes — completely. The rebrand is a name and identity change, not a product reformulation. Every recipe — Slow-Cooked Beef, Slow-Cooked Chicken, and Dry Dog Food — uses the same ingredients, the same ratios, and the same nutritional profiles as before.

Feeding Guidance

How much should I feed my dog (standalone)?

For Slow-Cooked Nutrition, your plan is calculated automatically based on your dog's weight, age, activity level, and lifestyle. You can see your feeding guideline through your account online.

Here's a general daily serving guide for our Dry Dog Food. Split across two meals if preferred.

Dog weightDry Food daily serving (approx.)
Under 10 lbs1/4 – 1/2 cup/day
10–25 lbs1/2 – 1 cup/day
25–50 lbs1 – 2 cups/day
50–75 lbs2 – 2.5 cups/day
75–100 lbs2.5 – 3.5 cups/day
Over 100 lbs3.5+ cups/day

Split the daily amount across two meals if preferred. Puppies, seniors, and very active dogs may need adjustments. As always, consult your veterinary professional.

How do I transition my dog to DASH Dog Food?

Switch gradually over 7–10 days to avoid digestive upset:

DaysCurrent foodDASH Dog Food
Days 1–375%25%
Days 4–650%50%
Days 7–925%75%
Day 100%100% — welcome to the pack!

Our formula includes yeast culture specifically to help your pup's stomach through the switch.

Sensitive stomach? Stretch to 2–3 weeks. If symptoms continue beyond the transition period, your vet is a great next call.

My dog is being picky — what should I do?

First things first — take a breath. Picky eating during a food switch is completely normal. Try these before you give up:

  • Slow the transition: some pups need 3–4 weeks, not 7–10 days. That's completely fine.
  • Mix with a topper: low-sodium broth, plain pumpkin, or a crumbled DASH treat on top can make all the difference.
  • Cut back treats before meals: dogs are smart — if they know treats are coming, they'll hold out.
  • Try a puzzle bowl or lick mat: sometimes the issue is the format, not the food.
  • Give it time: most dogs fully accept new food within 5–7 days. Consistency is key.

Still struggling after 2 weeks? Email support@dashdogfood.com — we can suggest a protein switch or portion adjustment.

Your first 30 days with DASH

What should I do when my first delivery arrives?

Welcome to the pack — your dog just got a serious upgrade. Here's exactly what to do:

Fresh food (Slow-Cooked Nutrition)

  • Move Slow-Cooked Nutrition packs to the freezer immediately upon arrival.
  • Thaw your first pack overnight in the fridge — never on the counter or in the microwave.

Dry ice is normal — it will evaporate on its own. Do not touch dry ice with bare hands.

Dry dog food

Dry food arrives shelf-stable — store in a cool, dry place and seal the bag after opening.

How do I start the transition in week 1?

Week 1 is all about gradual mixing. Here's the schedule:

DaysCurrent foodDASH Dog Food
Days 1–375%25%
Days 4–650%50%
Days 7–925%75%
Day 100%100%

Loose stools during the switch are normal — slow down if needed. Your pup's stomach will catch up.

What changes will I notice after switching?
TimelineWhat you might notice
Days 1–3Adjustment period. Stools may be slightly softer — totally normal.
Days 4–10Digestion settling. Most pups are eating confidently by day 7.
Weeks 2–4Stool quality is improving. Some early coat improvements.
Month 2Coat and skin changes are visible. Reduced scratching, healthier shine.
Month 3+Better breath, consistent energy, improved muscle tone.

Not seeing the results you expected? Reach out and we'll review your pup's plan together.

How do I manage my subscription in the first 30 days?
  • Skip, pause, delay, or change frequency: log in → Manage Subscriptions → select the option that works.
  • Update your dog's profile: if their weight or activity level changes, update their profile and we'll adjust portions automatically.

Food safety & handling

How do I safely thaw my dog's food?

The safest way to thaw is overnight in the refrigerator. Quick decision guide:

SituationSafe?What to do
Thawed in fridge (under 40°F)YesUse within 7 days
Thawed on counter, under 2 hoursCautionServe immediately or refrigerate
Left out more than 2 hoursNoDiscard — do not serve
Still partially frozen in centerYesContinue thawing in fridge
Previously thawed, want to refreezeNoDo not refreeze once fully thawed

Never thaw in hot water or a microwave — uneven temperatures can promote bacterial growth.

My food arrived warm — is it still safe?
  • Still frozen solid or has ice crystals: safe — transfer straight to the freezer.
  • Fully thawed but cold to the touch (~40°F): safe — refrigerate and use within 7 days, or refreeze if thawed less than 2 hours.
  • Warm to the touch or unsure how long it sat: do not serve your dog.

When in doubt, your pup's safety comes first. Email support@dashdogfood.com with your order number and a photo — we'll get a replacement sorted quickly.

Treats

Can I buy the Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites without a subscription?

At this time, our Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites are available exclusively as add-ons to a DASH Dog Food subscription — either as a one-time addition to an upcoming order, or as a recurring add-on so they arrive automatically with every delivery.

Treats are not available as standalone one-time purchases outside of a subscription.

Not yet a subscriber? Starting a DASH Dog Food subscription is the best way to get your pup's paws on our treats. And honestly? Once they try the liver bites, you'll be their favorite person every delivery day.

How many treats are in each bag?

Each bag of Single Ingredient Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites contains approximately 50–65 bites depending on the cut. Because freeze-drying removes the moisture from the liver, each bite is lightweight and concentrated — smaller than it looks, but packed with flavor your pup will love.

What is the shelf life of the Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites?

Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites have a significantly longer shelf life than fresh or baked treats — because freeze-drying removes moisture, which is what causes spoilage.

Unopened: 12 months from production date (see best-by date on bag).

Once opened: reseal tightly and store in a cool, dark place. Best used within 4–6 weeks of opening for peak freshness and palatability.

Pro tip: the resealable bag matters here. Make sure the zip closure is fully sealed after every use — moisture is the enemy of freeze-dried treats.

How often can I give my dog the Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites?

Because beef liver is nutrient-dense (particularly in Vitamin A), a little goes a long way. AAFCO recommends treats make up no more than 10% of your dog's total daily caloric intake.

For most dogs, 2–5 bites per day is a good starting point. Smaller dogs should stay toward the lower end.

Perfect for training — small, high-value, and your pup will work hard for them. Break larger bites into smaller pieces to stretch the bag and keep portions in check.

What are the ingredients in the Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites?

Single Ingredient Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites contain exactly one ingredient:

  • 100% Beef Liver — that's it. Nothing added, nothing removed.

The beef liver is sourced to ButcherBox's strict standards: 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, never given antibiotics or added hormones, ever.

Single-ingredient treats are ideal for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies — you always know exactly what your pup is eating.

What makes the Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites different from other treats?

Freeze-drying preserves the raw nutritional profile of beef liver — including natural vitamins, minerals, and amino acids — without heat processing or artificial preservatives.

  • High in natural Vitamin A, B vitamins, iron, and zinc
  • Pure protein — no fillers, no grains, no additives
  • Single ingredient means complete ingredient transparency
  • Highly palatable — most dogs go absolutely wild for liver

Because they're nutrient-dense, a little goes a long way. Perfect for training, rewarding, or just letting your pup know they're the best.

Why do you use freeze-drying instead of baking or cooking?

Freeze-drying removes moisture at very low temperatures, which preserves the natural nutritional integrity of the beef liver far better than heat-based processing methods.

Baking or cooking destroys heat-sensitive vitamins and enzymes. Freeze-drying locks in what nature puts there — so your pup gets the full benefit of this nutrient-dense ingredient.

Think of it as the gold standard for single-ingredient treats: nothing lost, nothing added.

Why should I choose DASH Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites over other dog treats?

Here's what makes our Freeze-Dried Beef Liver Bites genuinely different:

  • 100% single ingredient: just beef liver. No fillers, no grains, no additives, no mystery ingredients — ever.
  • ButcherBox sourcing standards: the beef liver comes from the same 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, hormone-free, antibiotic-free supply chain.
  • Freeze-dried for maximum nutrition: no heat processing means natural vitamins, minerals, and amino acids are preserved in their most bioavailable form.
  • Irresistible to picky eaters: beef liver is one of the most palatable treats available — dogs who refuse everything else rarely turn down liver.
  • Ideal for sensitive stomachs: single ingredient means you always know exactly what your dog is eating. No guesswork for dogs with allergies or intolerances.

These aren't just a treat — they're a training tool, a bonding moment, and a nutrient boost all in one little bite.

Rebrand: ButcherBox for Pets → DASH Dog Food

Why did ButcherBox for Pets change its name to DASH Dog Food?

DASH Dog Food is operated by the same team who founded ButcherBox — so when we say our meat is humanely sourced and held to the highest quality standards, that's not a marketing claim. It's the same promise we've kept from the beginning, now brought to a brand built from the ground up for dogs. We didn't just rename something. We built something — with the same people, the same standards, and a whole new purpose.

The new name is about giving your dog their own brand — one that speaks directly to them (and to you).

Are the formulations and ingredients the same after the rebrand?

Yes — completely. The rebrand is a name and identity change, not a product reformulation. Every recipe — Slow-Cooked Beef, Slow-Cooked Chicken, and Dry Dog Food — uses the same ingredients, the same ratios, and the same nutritional profiles as before.

If you ever notice a difference in taste, texture, smell, or your dog's reaction to the food, please contact us immediately — that would be unrelated to the rebrand and we want to know right away.

Will my subscription be affected by the rebrand?

No. Your subscription continues exactly as it was — same delivery schedule, same pricing, same account login, same portal. You do not need to do anything.

The only things changing are the brand name on the packaging and our website and contact details.

If you notice any unexpected changes to your account or subscription around the rebrand, please contact us right away at support@dashdogfood.com.

Has your contact information changed?

Yes. Our support email has moved from support@butcherboxforpets.com to support@dashdogfood.com. Our website has moved to www.dashdogfood.com.

All previous email threads and support history are being migrated — you will not lose any ongoing conversations or case history.

If you emailed support@butcherboxforpets.com after the rebrand date and didn't hear back, please resend to support@dashdogfood.com.
